Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Aveea
At Aveea, we believe science is for everyone. Our mission is to inspire every child to see themselves in STEM - regardless of background, identity or ability.
To do that, we’re building a team that reflects the communities we serve, and a workplace that makes space for individuality, contribution and growth. This policy sets out how we protect and promote diversity, inclusion and equity across everything we do.
1. Who This Policy Covers
This policy applies to all individuals representing Aveea, including but not limited to:
Full-time and part-time employees
Freelancers and contractors
Volunteers and student ambassadors
Workshop facilitators and content creators
2. Our Commitments
Aveea is committed to:
Encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion in all areas of our work
Creating a workplace free from bullying, harassment and unlawful discrimination, where every individual feels respected and empowered
Providing fair access to training, development and progression
Making decisions based on merit, not bias or protected characteristics
Reviewing our practices periodically to uphold fairness and adapt to legal changes or internal insights

We commit to applying these values and legal standards in all aspects of:

Training, promotion and development
Parental leave and flexible working requests
Handling grievances and disciplinary procedures
Dismissal, redundancy and workplace conduct
Representing Aveea publicly and working with schools, partners and families
5. Training & Awareness
All Aveea staff complete basic DEI training as part of onboarding
We promote inclusive leadership and communication throughout the team
We encourage team members to speak up if they experience or witness any form of bias or unfair treatment
6. Grievance & Reporting
If you have a concern or wish to raise a grievance related to diversity, discrimination or inclusion, please contact your line manager or email hr@aveea.org
We take complaints seriously. Incidents of bullying, harassment or discrimination may be treated as misconduct under our disciplinary procedures, and in some cases may result in dismissal
Sexual harassment or abuse may be a criminal matter. Where appropriate, we will escalate complaints through proper channels, including law enforcement
7. Inclusive Representation
We aim to reflect the diversity of our communities in all media, marketing and workshop materials
Our internal media team vets all photography and public-facing content
If you feel a resource or representation lacks inclusivity, we welcome feedback
8. Monitoring & Progress
While we don’t formally collect workforce demographic data at this stage, we commit to reviewing our representation and fairness regularly - especially if we observe patterns or blind spots that limit participation or impact.
9. Policy Oversight
This policy is reviewed annually by Aveea’s senior leadership and employee representatives. It is supported at the highest level, and all staff are expected to understand and uphold it as part of their roles.
